Basics of tabs

Once you have a guitar, make sure that you tune it well. Once you tune it you can see the difference and you can also quickly spot what is correct and what is wrong. To make the best use of this space tuning is skipped here. You can easily find how to tune on the internet. Maybe in due course I would post that as well. However, if you want to learn fast try to get a guitar that is tuned, which means that when you play "Sa" it actually plays "Sa" and not some other tune.

You should know these three steps before you start playing.
1. How to tune a guitar: You don't have to worry about it if you have a good tuned guitar.
2. How to hold it. See the picture below (it is not me by the way). Support the guitar firmly on your lap and chest and bring your right arm around it as shown. See what works best for you but it is a good idea to use this position.
3. What is a fret? Frets are sections separated by the line. You push on the strings with your left hand on the string you are playing to create different sounds. Try this out, pick any string and press down on any fret and hear how it sounds. Try again on a different fret. Just note that when you press on the string press in the center of the fret and don't touch the string anywhere else (other than with the right hand where you are playing of course.

Jumpstart...
A guitar has 6 strings. They are named E, B, G, D, A, E from the thinnest to the thickest.
You might have heard Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa. or Do Re Me Fa So La De Do.
In guitar u use C D E F G A B C
The simplest way to jump start is to read the table below..
You should read it from left to right.
E,B,G,D,A and E are the strings. And the numbers indicate where the finger should be placed.
E-----------------------------------5------7----8-----
B----------------5---6---8----------------------------
G-----5----7-------------------------------------------
D-------------------------------------------------------
A-------------------------------------------------------
E-------------------------------------------------------

So put the finger on the 5th fret of the G string.and play it once then move to 7 fret of G string then 5, 6 and 8 of B and finally 5, 7 and 8 of E..
There ... you have played sa re ga ma.. or C D E... and so on..
Master them ..
Play sa re ga ma ...
Play sa sa re re ga ga ma ma pa pa
Play sa re ga ;;; re ga ma ;;; ga ma pa.....
Play backwards sa ni dha ....
and so on to get a hold of them..

If you are able to play sa re ga ma successfully ! Great. You are halfway there.

In next lesson on tabs you would learn what is C#... or Dm or D# and stuff like that. and maybe play a couple of songs.
